An iso_types Haiku

At home in Aireys ISO,

A family of five in COVID lockdown –

Six … when counting the dog!

This is us (left to right): Polly, Griffin, Lachie, me (Geoff), Ingrid and Hamish. Since I was last actively blogging the kids have got a lot bigger and Ingy and I have gotten a whole lot older! When I was last writing at this blog nearly a decade ago, no one would have guessed the context for the family portraits in this post! A global pandemic with city and country wide lockdowns! The closing of borders and shutting down of whole parts of the economy?!

During the March to May lockdown we realised how lucky we are to live on Victoria’s surf coast. Aireys Inlet remains a village, on the doorstep of the Otways National Park and perched above surf breaks and the Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary. In those weeks, our appreciation and gratitude for our home was expressed every day, on every walk. Our little red kelpie, Polly, appreciated ISO more than any of us. Her pack was home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

These priceless family photos were taken as part of an @iso_types project initiated by the wonderful and talented Ferne Millen. In Iso (the first time around), Ferne executed her art form by travelling to people homes and (at a physical-distance) using a telephoto lens. In her own style she proceeded to take photos of scores of families ‘doing their thing’ and capturing the defining moments of these times living at home.

Fast forward 6 weeks and lockdown #1 was over. I was keen to get blogging again and relaunch my website with photos that … umm, well more accurately represented my age, greying and thinning hair! I’m 50 next year and wondering if a party will be even possible?! I reached out again to Ferne and visited her studio in Jan Juc. I’ve had these types of ‘professional’ photos taken before, but was never really able to relax. Ferne captured the essence of me by putting me completely at ease. Thank you again Ferne for helping me to re launch my blog! And thank you for the gift and family memories from COVID-ISO!
